Don’t let a lime shortage get to you: Hornitos Lime Shot is super fresh + recipe [classic article]

Did you know there’s a Mexican lime shortage going on and that your favorite restaurants and bars will probably start cutting back on their use? What about at home, where you make lime marinades and cocktails? Hornitos Lime Shot to the rescue! I was glad to be hosted to experience it.

Hornitos has created a drink that has their Plata tequila, lime and salt (though the label doesn’t say salt). This is how they describe Plata:

Untouched by wood barrels, unmarked by aging, our crystal clear Plata is the purest expression of 100% agave flavor. Its floral, herbal notes take you by surprise.

Sometimes, I’ve sampled flavored liquors that were harsh or artificial. I just can’t get over how smooth and how much like freshly squeezed lime this seriously is! They market it as a fun shot, which it sure is. But really, it’s good for a nice sipping cocktail, too! It’s kinda like discovering that the fun party girl is a member of royalty.

Here’s a super simple recipe using it. If you’ve never tried crema, it’s a mix of sour cream, heavy whipping cream and cream cheese. Once only found in Hispanic markets, you can find it at lots of grocery stores now. Definitely, you can find it at large Asian supermarkets, because of Filipino cuisine being influenced by Latin flavors.
