It’s still summertime and summertime practically shouts lemonade. August 20th is National Lemonade Day! It’s fun to create a cocktail to grow-up the drink, but who wants to fuss like some sort of mixologist? Hornitos Tequila — in Plata variety — to the rescue! I was happy to be hosted to experience it.
So . . . I didn’t wait until National Lemonade Day and you don’t have to, either. Celebrate what you want, when you want! Tonight is the season premier of one of my favorite shows since I was 12 — and I just celebrated a birthday way down the line — Dallas. As a way to kick off the evening in a Southwestern-y way, I fixed the cocktail detailed below.
I didn’t have green hot sauce on hand, but I did have some artisan red hot sauces. Use what you have, baby!
Believe it or not, I had never rimmed a glass before. This is how you do it: Get a shallow bowl with some fresh lime (or other citrus) juice, or reconstituted citrus juice. In a lipped dish or other shallow bowl, combine a spoon of sea salt and the spice. Like battering a chicken, dip your shot glass in the juice dish, then in the spice mix.
I used a funnel to pour the drink in the shot glass.

El Padre
· 1 part Hornitos® Plata Tequila
· 2 parts lemonade
· 3-4 dashes of green hot sauce
· Salt/smoked paprika rim
Preparation: Rim shot glass with salt and smoked paprika. Mix chilled lemonade, chilled Hornitos® Plata and hot sauce in mixing glass and pour into shot glass.
