FIFA fans going through IAH Houston Airport: get a taste of local BBQ at Beerhive

At airports, there’s always a risk of restaurants taking the “one and done” attitude or being so crazy expensive, you feel like you’re on another planet. If you’re traveling though Houston Airport – IAH – for the FIFA finals, you can give Beerhive a go!

Beerhive at IAH is located inside Terminal E, specifically near Gate E1 (Level 2 Departures, inside the secure area). IAH is connected by a secure-side walkway and the Skyway train, so you can access the Beerhive even if your flight departs from Terminals B, C, or D.

I had arrived on a red eye from Baltimore on my way to El Salvador. I got lucky in that my transfer was right next door and near the food court. It was too early, at least for me, to be drinking beer — but I hear they have lots of local Texas brews.

But I was hungry! I wanted a tiny taste of Texas. Portions, price and options-wise, the sliders is the way to go. You get your choice of pulled pork, brisket or pulled chicken. I picked brisket, because that’s an especially Texas thing. I paused to remember my late friend, Bret King, who owned Texas Brisket in West Texas. His was the best. But these were tasty. They’re garnished with a two cabbage coleslaw, BBQ sauce and pickles.

For just $3-4, you can add individual true Southern sides — I got smoked corn, the real street food stuff, sprinkled with cojita cheese.
