Demeter fragrance for Father’s Day!

I remember how my dad loved different fragrances. Back when going to the mall was fun, he’d go to all the counters and spray different things. He enjoyed a wide range of scents, from spicy to lemony. Now that malls are dead, you’re better off picking out some excellent and affordable colognes online from Demeter — they come in different sizes, too! I was happy to be hosted to experience them.

So, unless you’re in the fragrance or culinary world, you might not know what different ingredients smell like or if your dad would like it. I sampled a few of Demeter’s hundreds of scents that would make some special gifts for Father’s Day!

Folding Money – Demeter’s new fragrance! What dad wouldn’t like the smell of success? I experienced at first: fruit peels and fir trees. For the dry down, I experienced notes of paper, new bank bills, very subtle, masculine and light. Then, I got a little cotton as a base notes. This is how they describe it:

“U.S. Dollars have a distinct, if somewhat evolving and ambiguous smell, with hints of inky cotton, leather wallets, metal cash drawers, and hundreds of sweaty palms, in a complexity that evolves and changes over time, as money circulates.

We used new, though not un-circulated, bills, focusing on the crispness of the fabric-laden paper and the ink. The result is a light, clean scent with enough of the ink to make it unmistakably money, in American bills.”

Beeswax – This is not gourmand. It’s more that natural and outdoorsy wax scent, also reminding me of holy events and candles. Comforting! It’s like hanging out on the couch with Daddy when you’re having a bad day. He’ll like that. They describe it like this: “The intoxicating scent of wax, honey and flower pollens, is an irresistible call to the good life.”

Rye bread – stay with me, it’s a cool and unusual scent! Like a bit of charred bread straight out of the oven. with rye seeds. Dads love a sammich! They like making them on their own. This is a masculine fragrance. This is what they say about it: “If you want to know what Demeter’s Rye Bread smells like, think of thick, textured rye. It reminds us of a Polish Easter spread. Or maybe just a Friday Sabbath in New York. The point is: it’s always satisfying.”

Black Pepper – If your dad still “has it”, this is the scent for him! I experienced freshly cracked, zippy black pepper. It’s spicy, masculine, a very confident scent. It combines well with skin’s scent. This is what they say about it: “Luxurious, subtle and mysterious, like the peppercorns themselves. Black pepper’s pungent bite comes from the alkaloid -piperine and piperidine, combined with resins found mostly in the seeds. Its aromatic, slightly musty odor comes from the volatile oils found largely in the flesh and skin. These are the oils that go into creating this elegant Black Pepper scent.”

Royal Apricot – it’s a fallacy that men’s fragrances can’t have sweeter or juicier notes. These type of scents on their own or layered with other fragrances have a Middle Eastern exoticism. I experienced dried apricot notes, but more sweet and rich, rather than fruity. Try layering it with something like Rye Bread!

Vetiver – I experienced a very bracing menthol/fir tree with a tiny bit of spice that grows. Then, spice with a little lemon peel. It’s light and masculine, sporty. It has a very interesting background! Here’s what they say about it: “Vetiver by Demeter Fragrance Library is a warm, strong root aroma dark and ripe. Vetiver has a rich history. In India it has been used to make blinds necessary to keep out the intense heat. When the blinds are sprinkled with water they emit the vetiver scent. In Java the root has been used for centuries in weaving mats and thatching huts. The vetiver root is used in folk magic for its purported ability to provide safety and increase financial resources. A ritual designed to promote personal safety calls for inhaling vetiver while visualizing one’s body as being sealed off from negative energies.”

Mahogany – I experienced polished wood, not smoked wood. Clean and finished. It’s light and subtle. I also got some nut shell notes. It’s appropriate for any time. This is what they say about it: “A deep, rich, full bodied exotic wood scent, with a touch of spice. Pretty much what a man should smell like.”

Musk #9 – I experienced the scent of warm, masculine skin. You could layer to add depth to other fragrances. I also got a little faint cigarette smoke. Demeter has several musk fragrances, all are vegan. This is how they describe it: “A dry musk with top notes of lime and bergamot, a heart of jasmine with a powdery finish. We blended this fragrance with visions of Scheherazade and ‘1001 Arabian Night'”. Do you know of that tale? It’s very romantic, check it out!

Leather – Demeter has a few leather-type fragrances. This one is like a new leather car. I also experienced leather with snaps, zippers. It’s fresh and assertive. This is how they describe it: “

Is there anything as strangely addictive as the scent of leather?

The link between perfume and leather goes back hundreds of years and is even said by some to have marked the beginning of modern perfumery as we know it, as leather tanneries started to use perfume materials to mask the unpleasant scent of leather goods that had been produced using traditional tanning processes.

‘Bottling’ the scent of leather does not involve using anything from leather or animals. Rather, our perfumers have re-created the distinguished and luxurious odor of Leather by blending natural and synthetic materials in the laboratory – so like all of our fragrances, this product is 100% vegetarian!”

Whiskey Tobacco – Isn’t stale bar! Rather, it’s like a caramel cocktail. I experienced tobacco leaf- not smoke or cigar. It’s like a soft, wheated bourbon. This is how they describe it: “We think this blend of Whiskey and Tobacco Smoke is a great masculine scent. And sometime it’s nice to be reminded of your Dad.” Isn’t that the truth!
