If you’ve ever dropped a powder compact or mineral powder jar while traveling, you know how messy they get: disgusting! That’s not even addressing the lack of efficacy of many powders as a finishing touch for your makeup. Did you know that they can change color over time as your skin oils mix with them and definitely change colors on your face? I have photos of myself where there were blotches I couldn’t figure out . . . until I realized that’s where I had touched up with so-called translucent powder. Powder can also settle into fine lines — especially in hot weather — and look aging.

Mally — the upscale cosmetics line created by celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal — has a new product that will take away the finishing powder blues: Evercolor Poreless Face Defender. I was very happy to be hosted to experience it!

It’s clear as water and you can use it right over your foundation or other face makeup. You apply it with the sponge that’s included. I even used it as a smooth primer — it’s silicone-rich — beforefoundation.

I first tried the product without any other makeup . . . I had some sort of sunburn or flash burn from harsh products. I couldn’t use foundation, but naturally, I wanted some sort of cover! Well, Evercolor Poreless Face Defender doesn’t deposit any color on, but it is like a sheer veil on skin. Imagine if you were able to pixelate your imperfections. The product was soothing, gave me a little bit of a camouflage and stayed on. It wasn’t oily, flaky or cakey. Later down the road, it was great with foundation.

For traveling, I hope that someday Mally makes a teeny version — every little bit helps when I’m carrying gear all day — and makes a sponge that fits into the case.
