When the folks at Wild Turkey distillery unwittingly mixed a very rare, high proof Rye with aged Bourbon, their Associate Master Distiller — Eddie Russell — declared the new creation delicious. I agree! The whiskey blend is called Forgiven. It’s a limited edition, so hurry! I was very glad to be hosted to experience it.
With the best qualities of both drinks, this is what they say about it:
Vanilla oaky taste pointing perfectly towards a cinnamon, clove and pepper finish.
Bourbonr Blog has some tasting notes here, too. This is what I thought about it:
It is so smooth and drinkable! I usually put one ice cube or a splash of spring water in my whiskey drinks, but didn’t need to here. It’s got a spice nose, but a brighter, light floral quality. It’s not heavy. It’s got some light brown sugar sweetness. It’s a light to medium color: Bourbonr Blog describes it as “orange blossom honey,” but I’d say it was a touch darker than that. I agree with their assessment of it having spearmint notes, but I also white pepper and some burnt caramel. It definitely has a toasted rye bread finish.
It comes in a handsome presentation and would make a great Father’s Day gift.
