Today, people in Woodberry were girding up for Hurricane Sandy coming our way . . . by heading out for a beer party! There was beer, bbq and a bluegrass band on hand for the “Pickin’ and Pints” party. TBonz BBQ was for sale, including pulled chicken, sausage and baby back ribs. at Union Craft Brewing’s headquarters on Union Avenue. Somehow — oh, yeah, the internet — word got out and lots of Baltimore‘s beer and music fans showed up with kids and puppies. The industrial space was as lively as one of those farm Fall fests.
They’ve only been open to the public since June, but they’ve already won a Gold Medal against 4,400 contestants at the most recent Great American Beer Fest in Denver. The winning brew was the German-style Alt Beer. This is how they describe it:
This German-style Altbier is our nod to an old world, old school ale. The word “Alt” is German for “old”, and refers to the traditional style of brewing before lager yeast was discovered. Balt is a dark, copper colored brew with a creamy head, a gentle bitterness and a clean, dry finish. Prost, Hon!

At their tasting room, you can sample their brews and pick up some brewery-fresh beer to take home. Open Saturday from 1 -4pm. Similarly, Brewery tours will be given on Saturday only. Tours will given at 1:30, 2:30, & 3:30 and last approx. 10-15 minutes. No reservations required.
