A restaurant like an exclusive private club: Rundale, Latvia’s Mazmezotne Manor

Rundale, Latvia is a parish town part of the Bauska region near the Lithuanian border. It’s a picturesque area near the Lithuanian border. Mazmeznotne was an aristocratic manor home and is now a chic hotel. I hear from locals it’s considered very upscale to have a party or wedding there. They have a restaurant that’s only open to guests. I was happy to be hosted to experience it!

Dinner started out with apple-berry water: a fabulous combination. This late September had an extra summer going for it in Latvia, so I ordered an Aperol spritz, light and bubbly.

The manor grows its own veggies, fruit and herbs. With the weather, their produce was looking terrific.

I must’ve tucked into the salad so quickly, that I didn’t take a photo of it! It had fresh local goat cheese, a toasted bread heel, hard-boiled egg, Romaine and baby greens, vinaigrette, yellow tomatoes, peas, cucumbers. You could taste that it was freshly picked.

For an entree’, I had duck confit with honey, more garden veggies and purple basil. It was so tender, with just a touch of sweetness. The veggies were beets, peppers and squash.

Cool jazz and Latvian folk songs played in the background.

Dessert was homemade vanilla bean ice cream with homemade strawberry sauce. Look how beautifully it was presented!
