Munch your brunch at Riga, Latvia’s Golden Coffee

The Old Town area of Riga, Latvia has a poppin’ nightlife: you can find people of all ages outside at pubs and restaurants. But come morning, unless you’ve had breakfast at a hotel, it’s kind of hard to find a place for coffee “and”.

Walking around, I hit the jackpot: Golden Coffee. It’s got a hip vibe, like last night’s party is still going.

They’re running it with an eye to sustainability: printed menus have been replaced with a QR code and it’s cash only.

Golden Coffee serves all kinds of coffee drinks, teas and tea drinks, as well as several kinds of lemonade. I ordered a flat white.

Since it was late morning, I ordered potato pancakes with egg and bacon, garnished with lettuce and vegan mayo. I’m kind of nutso about potato pancakes — but for some nutritional deficiencies, I could eat them all day, every day. Though the sandwich is a little messy to eat, the flavors worked together.
