Candy Cane Truffle shower gel has a creamy peppermint base with fudgy notes. This is what they say about it: “We made Candy Cane Truffle using the chocolate notes to soften, round and balance the peppermint of the candy cane. The result is a surprisingly sophisticated, and shockingly wearable fragrance.”

If you spent your childhood during certain years, you remember your mom making baths with the pink bottle. Bring back your memories with Bubble Bath! This is what they say about it: “Demeter’s Bubble Bath is both nostalgic and current: a sharp fruity concoction with notes of coconut, banana and peach, with a floral center, and a vanilla and raspberry finish. This is childhood bath time, personified.” Layer it with Bath & Body Oil in the same scent, for more lasting results. Besides, winter is the time to add more oils to your body care routine, to keep hydrated and to keep your skin from cracking. Here’s what they say about it:

“Our Bath & Body Oil use the same fragrance oils as our colognes, so you are assured of a great and consistent fragrance experience. Baking scents have been proven to make people feel comfortable, nostalgic and even romantic! Top realtors keep them around when trying to sell homes. Condensed Milk is the addictive ingredient in things like Vietnamese coffee, layered cookie bars and Key Lime pie. I can’t really buy it, because the next thing you know, I’m in front of the tv with an open can and a spoon and that’s all she wrote. The scent is intensely creamy with a powdered sugar note. This is what they say about it:

“Condensed milk is pasteurized during the evaporation procedure, with the added sugar making any further sterilization unnecessary, since the sugar inhibits the growth of microorganisms. It is also this combination, of milk and sweet sugar, that gives Demeter’s Condensed Milk its distinctive odor.”

Jelly Doughnut is perfect for Hanukkah, because we eat fried foods to celebrate the miracle of oil. Jelly doughnuts are definitely a tradition for 8 nights in some homes. In this scent, you can really smell the fried dough and very, very cooked-down grape jelly. This is what they say about it!

“If you want a million dates, wear this. Our Jelly Doughnut is a perfectly balanced blend of grape jelly and fresh doughnut, with a sugary top.” Well, there’s hope for us all! It’s certainly a comforting scent in Bath & Body oil.

Caramel has that well-toasted sugar scent and I notice a top-note of a buttermilk-lactic layer, keeping it intriguing and fresh. Here’s what they say about it:

Demeter’s caramel perfectly captures the essence of the candy. It is deep, rich, sweet, syrupy and sensual. There are no clear origins for caramel, but the recipe has remained consistent and simple: sugar and corn syrup cooked to the proper consistency.

By Thierry Mugler
I wanted something mouthwatering and tasty which reminds me of childhood. The scent is a fairground, candy floss, little cakes, chocolate and caramels. Perfume must not be linked just to fashion because that means one day it will go out of style.”

Sticky Toffee Pudding is a traditional English Christmas dessert, but you don’t have to make it. It’ll just make a mess of your kitchen and lots of dishes to wash. As a fragrance, it’s delicious browned butter with brown sugar. Very comforting in Bath & Body Oil for those cold nights! This is what they say about it:

“This wonderful buttery and toffee concoction is best in England. It’s yummy and sugary and makes us happy. We are particularly fond of the version at Brown’s, London W1. Sticky toffee pudding is a British dessert (or pudding) consisting of a moist sponge cake made with fine chopped dates and covered in a toffee sauce. It was originally called “icky sticky toffee sponge”. The core notes expressed in Demeter’s Sticky Toffee Pudding are the dates and the toffee. The dessert’s origins are considered a “mystery” according the gastronomic journal, Saveur; however the dominant story is that Francis Coulson developed and served this dessert at his Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel in the Lake District in 1960. It has been stated by Coulson’s former protégé and chef, Juan Martin, that Coulson hinted that the original concept for the dessert was derived from a farm wife in Lancashire. However it was also found that the Landlady of The Gait Inn, Millington invented it in 1907 and was then sold in the pub much to everyone’s delight. In any case, Coulson introduced and refined the dessert to the general public making his recipe completely accessible to all those who asked. A final story regarding the origins of the dessert involves The Udny Arms Hotel in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire. The hotel has claimed that it invented the pudding for years, and it is true that, if you ask almost anyone from the surrounding area, they will cite the hotel as the birthplace of the dish.”

Dark Chocolate is said to have all kinds of attributes. Wikipedia says, “Archaeologists have found evidence that Mayan chocolate consumption occurred as early as 500 BC, and there is speculation that chocolate predates even the Mayans.” I get notes of cocoa and even a touch of coffee, but not those bitter 72% bars. It has a good bit of sweetness. You’ll certainly be alluring with an application of Bath & Body Oil. It’s a terrific nod to the Hanukkah gelt – chocolate coins — that are so much a part of US celebrations. This is what they say about it:

Deep, rich and exotic, Dark Chocolate by Demeter is a silky smooth, absolutely sensual and indulgent chocolate fragrance.

Dark chocolate history goes back at least 3000 years. What began, as a bitter drink in the pre-historic tropics of South America has become one of the world’s most popular treats. Dark chocolate was the only form of chocolate until the addition of milk in the 19th century, so chocolate history is really the history of dark chocolate.”

Finish off an evening — or maybe just get started! — with Bath & Body Oil in Hot Toddy. In law school, I had a drafty apartment, but with a vintage working fireplace. I loved sitting in front of it with a hot toddy! Ah, the stuff you remember. Rum can be made with sugar or molasses and I definitely get the dark sugar hit with butter. Here is what they say about it:

“Here’s a soothing scent for you-Hot dark rum, creamed butter, brown sugar and lemon, topped with cinnamon and nutmeg. This is a variation of Hot Buttered Rum, which the English (Americans too) have been drinking for centuries, also known as Grog.”

Demeter’s humongous minis make perfect stocking stuffers. Take the stress away with a cuppa and a scent of Chamomile Tea. I get notes of sweet, bright floral with a hint of honey. It’s delicate and lovely. Here’s what they say about it: “Demeter’s Chamomile Tea is a special oil blended from Egyptian Chamomile, with its large, bright flowers. It produces a fragrant cologne worthy of its storied past. We find it as relaxing as the real thing.”

For something less sweet, with a punch of masculine notes, Black Tea is the way to go. I noticed powerful brewed tea leaves and smokiness. This is what they say about it:

“Clean and crisp, fragrant and enveloping, sharp but well balanced, this scent is reminiscent of a perfectly prepared cup of hot black tea, and evokes all the warm and wonderful memories and feelings that evokes.”

Gold has been cherished by many religions and many cultures for many thousands of years. Anyone you gift will be appreciative. I get a metallic tang, like when casinos used to give your money in buckets, but warmer. This is what they say about it:

The Scent
This is something of a departure, as we indulge in a bit more scent fantasy and interpretation than usual. While you will experience a warm, golden metallic “tang”, this fragrance is grounded in light woods and exotic spices.

The Inspiration
Having made Myrrh and Frankincense, we were compelled to make a Gold fragrance.

The Story
On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another path.”

I always read that in the olden days, pomanders were a big deal Christmas gift. Now with Pomander, you can keep up the tradition! I get dried orange studded with cloves and maybe a little brandy sprinkled on top. You’ll definitely smell like you brought the party! This is what they say about it:

“The term Pomander is derived from the French Pomme d’Amber, or Apple of Amber – a ball or container made of perfumes, spices or herbs. Pomander’s can also be apples or oranges covered in cloves or other spices.

Demeter’s Pomander is inspired by Apples, Cinnamon and Amber, for a fantastic spicy Holiday blend, with fruity undertones.”

Christmas Bouquet has a touch of spice, lots of sweet creaminess and cut flowers. What a hostess gift this would be! This is what they say about it: “A swirl of Holiday flowers without even a touch of green. The heart of this fragrance is made from natural carnations, which give it a unique spiciness and creaminess. An irresistible Holiday bouquet, as only Demeter can.”

Atmosphere Diffuser Oils make it easy to add subtle fragrance to a room without even trying! You open the cap, stick in bamboo sticks or in a pinch, wooden chopsticks. When you think about it, reverse the stick. Egg Nog is a real homemade drink scent: I get the egg, vanilla, a little rum and freshly grated nutmeg. It would be a fun diffuser to have in your office! This is what they say about it: “Wear this and you won’t need the mistletoe! Demeter’s Egg Nog is a delightful, creamy, concoction with touches of nutmeg and a dash of cinnamon. The perfect Egg Nog, at least from an olfactory perspective. Irresistible anytime.”

Candles are so appropriate at this time of year, with the darkest of days. For some, that’s part of the reason for the season! I must confess, I don’t know what Mistletoe smells like in real life, but this smells like a fresh wreath, with fir tree with a teeny touch of fresh berry in the background. This is what they say about it: “A deep, unisex, evergreen fragrance that will transport you to the very heart of the wintry forest, and whip up those romantic thoughts anytime. From the earliest times mistletoe has been one of the most magical, mysterious, and sacred plants of European folklore. It was considered to bestow life and fertility; a protection against poison; and an aphrodisiac. The mistletoe of the sacred oak was especially sacred to the ancient Celtic Druids, and it is with the Greek festival of Saturnalia that the seeds are found for the Western tradition of “Kissing under the Mistletoe”.

Myrrh was one of the gifts of the Magi. This candle has a resiny, amber sort of scent with a bit of evergreen wood and incense. It’s warm, but not sweet. This is what they say about it: “

Warm, spicy, radiant and sensual, Myrrh is a classic and ancient fragrance ingredient, and like Frankincense, was one of the three gifts the Three Kings gave to Baby Jesus.  It is also an aromatic tree resin like Frankincense and has been used throughout history as a perfume, incense and for medicinal purposes.

Myrrh and Frankincense, launched in 2015, compliment each other and blend beautifully.”

Frankincense, another gift of the Magi, is even spicier with black pepper notes, smokier and more exotic. This is what they say about it: “

Demeter’s Frankincense is a full, rich, woody, spicy expression of a classic fragrance note. So classic, that the Bible mentions it as one of the three types of gifts the wise men gave to the baby Jesus.

Frankincense is tapped from the scraggly but hardy Boswellia sacra trees by slashing the bark, which is called striping, and allowing the exuded resin to bleed out and harden. There are several species and varieties of frankincense trees, each producing a slightly different type of resin. Differences in soil and climate create even more diversity of the resin, even within the same species.”

Perfect for Hanukkah with its homemade applesauce for latkes, is Golden Delicious. The sweet, golden apple fragrance would be perfect to burn in a kitchen. This is what they say about it: “Golden Delicious from Demeter was inspired by memories of picking apples with the kids on a crisp fall day. The fragrance of the ripe fruit was so strong we didn’t want to wash our hair for days, for fear of losing the scent and the moment.”

If you’ve never gone to see a performance of the ballet The Nutcracker, Christmastime is the time to go! There’s one Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. This candle has an unusual blend that’s hard to put your finger on. I get spice notes, cooked custard, bright fruit. This is what they say about it: “A perfect Holiday fragrance. Sugar plums can be made from any kind or combination of dried fruits, not just plums, together with finely chopped nuts, honey and aromatic spices. Demeter’s Sugar Plum is, not surprisingly, on the simple side, just plum, honey, powdered sugar and a secret combination of spices. Sugar Plums are widely associated with Christmas, inspired by characters like the Sugar Plum Fairy in Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” and of course: A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement C. Moore ‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro’ the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar plums danc’d in their heads.”

Does your bedroom go cold overnight? You might not have house staff lighting a fire for you, but I really like the idea of lighting a Pumpkin Spice Latte as you get dressed. It will make even Mondays better! I get the dark roast coffee, intense spices, fresh pumpkins and the teeniest touch of salt. Here’s what they say about it: “A limited edition blend of coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, and a dash of vanilla.”

They say a lot about the fragrance of Cinnamon Bun, like it might help you catch a man! Well, as they say, “It can’t hurt.” This has a lot of spices, not just cinnamon. I get allspice and nutmeg, too. Also, sugary icing. This is what they say about it: “Dr. Alan Hirsch, Neurologist and Psychiatrist, and Director of Chicago’s Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, discovered that men became sexually stimulated when they smelled the aroma of cinnamon rolls.?
