Give mom the look of fresh, youthful skin for Mother’s Day with Drunk Elephant

I was my mom’s mother’s first grandchild. As a small tyke, nobody was calling her “Bubbe” or “Granny” or “Nana”. I guess I picked up on my mother, probably my aunt and even my dad, calling her “Mom”. I figured that was her name! Forever more, all the grandchildren called her “Mom”. She was dee-lighted. I certainly get it now: I’m now older than she was when she became a grandmother. She liked keeping that young mom vibe going as long as possible.

Whether it’s for yourself, your mom or grandmother, why not keep ’em guessing? Drunk Elephant is a skin and hair care line that focuses bio-compatibility and balancing the acid mantle of the skin. I was happy to be hosted to experience it!

They’ve created a new gift set that not only will help create a beautiful complexion, but it’s fantastically packaged, no wrapping needed! The Haul Acid kit even has an acid green gel built into the top of a keepsake heart-shaped box. Why acid? They explain it like this: skin is in an acid environment. Bumpiness, irritation, dullness can all benefit from acidic skin products. The kit contains products to be used at different times of the day.

As I’ve discussed before, serums are for both night and day, but you need different types at for different times. Serums are more concentrated than creams and thinner in consistency. They go on first. C-Firma Day Serum has a thin, clear liquid consistency and can be mixed with other products. It has Vitamin C, Vitamin E, iron and fruit enzymes to dissolve dead skin, fight wrinkles and skin discoloration, fight off the effects of free radicals. It’s created to not wash or rub off for 72 hours — also great for traveling! Vitamin C is best used fresh. Vitamin C’s chemical name is ascorbic acid.

T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum is a thin, clear serum for those nights when you aren’t using TLC Sukari Babyfacial. Use acid in proper proportions! It’s formulated with an AHA/BHA blend of glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric and salicylic acids, and blended with raspberry extract to dissolve dead skin cells while you sleep. It also has ingredients to calm irritations and reduce the appearance of capillaries.

Many beauty magazines, including Allure, NewBeauty, InStyle, etc., have given their top awards to T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial. It’s a AHA/BHA skin resurfacer (AHAs and BHAs are two different acids that perform different functions in skincare). It’s a pump out mask that contains glycolic, tartaric, lactic, citric and salicylic acids. This combo rapidly dissolves that thick, distressed layer of skin that creates the appearance of big pores, accentuates wrinkles, leads to breakouts and other problems. Because there’s a lot of efficacy going on, they do caution you to not use other potent products at that time or on irritated skin.

Retinol is widely considered among dermatologists the best non-invasive anti-aging ingredient. A-Passioni Retinol Cream is a pump-out thin, yellow cream that can be used day or night. With retinol (Vitamin A), it’s advisable to be very proactive with sunscreen. You only need to use a pea-sized drop — or smaller — to see its effectiveness.

F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial is a night mask that gives your complexion an overnight “ahhhh”. It contains niacinamide (a Vitamin B derivative), sodium PCA, plant squalane, five forms of ceramides, omega fatty acids and powerful antioxidants. It pumps out a medium-rich lotion consistency that absorbs immediately into your skin. You won’t wreck your sheets or come off like an extra in the beauty parlor scene from the 1939 version of The Women. Nobody will know you have it on. It strengthens the skin’s acid mantle — exactly what the wind strips off — as well as helping with uneven tone and texture. Yet, it isn’t irritating or gritty.

Drunk Elephant also has some new products not in the kit, but worth serious consideration:

If you or your mom is well along that aging skin path, Drunk Elephant’s most powerful new product is Protini Powerpeptide Resurf Serum. It contains peptides, growth factors, amino acids and lactic acid. It also features water-boosting ingredients to up the hydration factor in finely wrinkled, sun-damaged, large-pored skin. It pumps out in a thin, milky serum consistency and dries immediately. You won’t have any difficulties applying makeup and it won’t “pill”.

What is a “micellar water”? It is a cleanser/toner that doesn’t require water to either apply or remove. Some folks have such sensitive skin — or their local tap water is so harsh — that just splashing on or bathing in water over-sensitizes their skin. E-Rase Milki Micellar Water is a milky cleanser that you shake and apply/remove with a cotton ball. It’s not creamy or goopy, so you won’t be compelled to rinse it off. Yet, it’s not bracing like an alcoholic toner. It removes makeup, as well as the regular grime that you accrue during the day. Not only is it a product for home, but it’s also a great concept for anytime you’re out: in the car, at the gym, at the beach, etc. If you’re having a day when your skin is freaking out, this will cleanse it in the gentlest way.

What is a “biome”? It’s a biological community, including the flora, fauna and microbes, specific to that area. Foodies call it “terroir”. Various factors, such as pollution, diet, medicines and prolonged sun exposure can affect the microbiome that keeps your skin mantle healthy. Sweet Biome Fermented Sake Spray is much more than a soothing atomizer! With fermented sake, kombucha, hops, coconut water and sodium PCA, it’s a replenisher! It dries to a protective film. I think it makes a perfect primer for when you need to apply mineral makeup and don’t want the gooey consistency or pilling that gel-like primers can have. It’s also a great primer for hot, humid weather.
