Depending on where you live and what you do, you might be on the verge of heading out into the wide world for the first time in months. My own hairdresser had to hack off several inches of my ‘do, letting me know that it was apparent that I hadn’t kept up good self-care during the lockdown. “Why would you?” she shrugged. Why, indeed. Happi Scalp Scrub feels like a clay-based facial scrub. It has a faint sweet almond scent. It uses AHA/BHA acids in plant-based cellulose beads (not plastic!) to exfoliate and help balance pH levels. This is not one of those harsh detox products that strip your hair. It incorporates fatty acid-rich plant oils including marula, mongongo, baobab. maracuja, watermelon seed, jojoba.

You apply it dry to your scalp, leave it in for 10 minutes, then continue onto your normal haircare routine. Do this once or twice a week. You can even use it on your body for a gentle polish.

Continuing the scalp care into your hair, McMillan has created a luxurious shampoo: Cocomino Glossing Shampoo. Normally, naturally derived shampoos don’t lather, but this has a thick, creamy foam. Fatty acid oil like sacha inchi seed, marula and argan help restore shininess. They note that you should not rinse and repeat. The clear shampoo has a more pronounced, delicious sweet almond scent.

Cocomino Marula Cream Conditioner uses non-fragrant plant oils and butters, so there’s a naturally faint nutty scent. Without silicones, it won’t cause the buildup that other conditioners commonly do. It’s got a lotion consistency, so it’s not heavy and won’t weigh down your hair. Still, it’s a powerhouse in smoothing and moisturizing. They advise that you comb it through your hair, from roots to ends, before rinsing.

Modern next-level haircare includes a detangling, heat protection product. Wild Marula Tangle Spray is silicone-free, with light plant oils to protect the hair strand. So many protection products are so heavy, your hair can look like a corn broom. It has a sweet almond scent that’s created to dissipate. It pumps out in a fine stream mist.

You probably didn’t take good care of your body skin during the lockdown and you’ve probably never treated it as luxuriously as Kamilli Cream Body Cleanser does. This lotion consistency cleanser with a sweet almond scent is of a quality usually reserved for the finest facial skincare. Deodorant is applied right near glands, so it can affect your health. Sweet Pitti Deodorant Cream is is free of baking soda, essential oils and aluminum-derived ingredients. It applies in a twist-up container. I haven’t noticed any streaking on clothing, either. Using plant oils and butters, the deodorant actually helps your underarm skin, instead of irritating it or creating rashes.
