With everything going on, it’s understandable if you feel like you’re falling apart — both inside and out. Maybe you’ve given up on self-care, being socially distanced from the rest of the world and scarfing down everything that ever saw the inside of your cupboard. But it’s important that you not give up on yourself! Soon, you’ll be interacting with the rest of the world, before you know it. Right now, you’ve got to be your own best friend!
Earthwise Beauty is a whole-person line that includes skincare, teas and flower/gem essences. I was happy to be hosted to experience some of their products!
They are able to source rare, but beloved varieties of teas on a seasonal basis, including the Long Jing (“Dragon’s Well“) tea. I was able to try the green tea, which they deem “toasty and opulent”. I tasted fresh grassy notes, as well as nutty, tasty cereal flavors. If you use a strainer with this loose tea, you can get up to 4 drinks out of each portion, so that’s very economical.
This tea is from the first spring picking, directly from a hand-selected artisanal tea farm. Be sure to note the special brewing and storage instructions. This is what they say about it:
“We are offering this high-grade green tea to encourage our skincare customers to drink tea as an incredible skin-enhancing supplement loaded with antioxidants. Green tea is known to increase immunity, and it has a cooling influence on the body, reducing inflammation that may appear as reddened acne or cold-sore outbreaks, rosacea, or rashes.
Tea is considered the most important herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the only one that should be consumed daily. It is believed to have a balancing effect on the body and mind. Whereas coffee dehydrates the body and stimulates the adrenal fight-or-flight response, therefore depleting the adrenals and accelerating aging, this lightly caffeinated tea calms the mind and is believed to actually increase longevity. And the overall low caffeine content of this tea allows one to enjoy the healthy antioxidants without compromising sleep quality.”
Marshmallow Face Cleanser is meant for all skin types. It’s a sea green fluid that pumps out of a glass bottle. It has a naturally woody-nutty scent. There was a time when I did some very deep studying of essential oils and flower qualities. So, I can confirm the validity of how they describe the product:
“For this soothing herbal face cleanser, we hand-mix organic castille soap with a dose of strong-brewed calendula flowers, marshmallow roots, and chamomile flowers, and then we add unrefined cold-press pumpkin seed oil and golden jojoba seed oil. The blue tansy and German blue chamomile oils we use are a very dark, midnight blue color, which is one way to ensure that they are the highest grade available (lower-grade oils are thinner and paler blue or almost green in color). These deep blue oils (rich in chamazulene) are anti-inflammatory, calming, soothing, repairing, and antiviral. The combination of German and Roman chamomile and Moroccan chamomile (blue tansy) with just a touch of violet leaf and galbanum also results in a light, comforting, and mind-soothing scent.”
If you’ve ever had to use a product for extreme skin irritation, the best ones utilize blue chamomile, because it really works on inflammation. Foaming cleansers feel the best, because they’re the most refreshing — they don’t leave waxy or oily residue. By the way, all of Earthwise Beauty’s products are protected in dark glass bottles. Without preservatives, you are encouraged to refrigerate them or at least keep them in a cool area, shaking them to emulsify when it’s time for use.
Even if you don’t use any other skin treatment, you need a serum! They are light and thin in consistency — so they sink in better — but chock full of active and efficacious ingredients. They boost anything else you’re using or serve as the perfect hydrator for oily skin. Nap in the Meadow is a very lightweight aloe-based serum, perfect for complexions with acne. It has specially selected ingredients like tumeric CO2 supercritical extract, yarrow oil, German blue chamomile, two types of French lavender, galbanum (which was one of the ingredients for making sacred incense in the Old Testament), aloe and Edward Bach-style flower essences. The product has an exotic floral fragrance.
Facial mists are refreshing on their own, add a final fillip after cleansing and are great for setting makeup, so that it doesn’t have a cakey, powdery look. Cistus (the wild rock rose found in mountainous Portugal) is the rare ingredient in Cistus and Moonlight Face Mist. It has a honey/moss fragrance. When they obtain the cistus, then, the ingredients are infused overnight during the next full moon. How magical or majickal! This is why: “The moonlight amplifies the healing properties that correspond to the yin, or feminine element. Beauty, female intuition and insight, patience, and gentleness are enhanced.” Yin should be a good universal force to help calm your skin and you.
Sometimes, your complexion might feel dry and scaly, uncomfortable, yet be acne-prone. You need something that’s healing and soothing, without clogging your pores. Green Leaves Face Balm is made with and is the consistence of coconut oil — you emulsify it in your palm and apply. It also has goodies like violet leaves and wild-crafted French lavender oil, with a very herbacious fragrance. It helps to prevent acne scarring.
It’s true, I have — and you probably do, too — about a jillion lip balms. Most are the same kinds I bought as a kid at the drug store, because of their flavors. But, they’re loaded with harsh chemicals that just create a round-robin of application to fix the damage they create. Earthwise Beauty rethought lip treatments from the ground up with Thelma Lip Treatment. It was not made to be beautiful or tasty, though it has an appealingly natural nuttiness about it. It’s not a cosmetic, so all genders and ages can benefit from its healing. It won’t interfere with lipstick application, because it sinks into the lip tissue. If you need a heavier lip product — like for winter sports — they suggest you apply it on top. They say this about the ingredients: “South African mafura butter and from the Brazilian bacuri butter, both ingredients used by the indigenous cultures of each region as heal-alls for wounds, eczema, and dry, cracked skin. We added Brazil nut oil for its bounty of minerals and vitamins, and mango kernel butter.”
