Neighborhood secret find: Baltimore’s Peru a la Brasa (Peruvian cuisine)[classic article]

There’s a Peruvian restaurant on Rolling Road in Baltimore that’s so low-key, even neighborhood people don’t know about it, but the secret needs to come out! Peru a la Brasa doesn’t even has a web presence — though you can learn more about Peruvian roasted chicken here.

Tamar Alexia Fleishman, Esq.

The prices are modest — with many dinners under $10 — and the menu isn’t dumbed down, either. Sure, you can order moist, well-seasoned chicken or well-marbled pork, but there’s also beef tripe, calves’ hearts and ceviche! I will be back for the offal, but I did order the ceviche, beautifully fresh tilapia. They also have “seafood” ceviche, but I like how fish ceviche turns out better. You can order it in 4 different levels of heat. I recommend Level 2, which has just a bit of bite and heat. Flavorful!

Available Peruvian sides include pico de Gallo, yucca, plantain and even a “Peruvian-Chinese fried rice”.

Their hours of operation are Mon-Thurs: 11:00 am – 9:00 pm, Fri- Sat 11:00 – 10:00 pm, Sun. 11:00- am – 8:00 pm

Location is 1736 N. Rolling Road, Baltimore, MD 21244, 410-281-0000

There are a few casual tables to eat on the premises, but they highlight carry-out and delivery (minimum $15).
