Did you know that mushrooms are the new “It” ingredient for skincare? Korean luxe skincare company Amarte has incorporated the goodness of a specific mushroom into several of their products. I was happy to be hosted to experience it! Here’s what they say about mushrooms:
The latest trend in skin care is mushrooms. Long known for its healing properties in traditional Chinese and Korean medicine, the magical properties of mushrooms continue; and this time with exceeding skin care benefits. Mushrooms provide a natural overall healthy skin boost, ranging from anti-aging solutions to complexion toning and smoothing. Most importantly, they are touted for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and have even been used for anticancer purposes.
Amarte, the premiere luxury skin care line that combines Korean skin care philosophy with the power of Western dermatology, offers a number of skin care and sun protection products pioneering the use of mushrooms, specifically meshima mushroom, aka Phellinus linteus extract. Called meshima mushroom or black hoof mushroom, Phellinus linteus extract has been shown to have antioxidant effects equivalent to Vitamin C and anti-tumor properties on skin, lung, breast and prostate cancer cells.
In Korean traditional medicine, this mushroom is consumed in the form of hot tea, often as an anti-tumor agent. In recent years it has been the subject of significant clinical study because of its reasonably well documented anti-cancer properties. Hispidin, a resveratrol-like compound, has recently been identified as the key antioxidant molecule in this extract. The British Journal of Cancer reported in 2008 that this extract could slow the growth of different types of cancer cells and improve the effects of anticancer drugs.
I feel Amarte Pure Hydration Serum — sized perfectly for 3-1-1 carry-on travel bags — is great for all complexions, in all but the fiercest windy/cold weather: it’s light, non-irritating, doesn’t affect makeup application, feels refreshing. You can read more about it HERE.
Ask any dermatologist to the stars, and she’ll tell you: retinol is the proven anti-ager. Amarte Aqua Cream has 1% retinol, but with special ActivExtract arbutin (a protein often found in soothing egg whites), it’s not irritating like other retinol products can be. Still, I like the idea of using it at night, as retinol can make one sun-sensitive. The product helps balance the skin’s oil-moisture ratio, which is very important with the changing of the seasons: sometimes your skin can go berserk this time of year! This “cream” pumps out and applies with a super-light serum texture. It’s sized perfectly for 3-1-1 carry-on travel bags.
