Trier is Germany’s oldest town, settled by Romans for its location on the Mosel River and relatively mild climate. On the bluffs overlooking the city and bordering Luxembourg is the historic property of the aristocratic von Nell family, making Reisling wines since acquiring their lands during Napoleon’s time.
Currently the 8th generation is tending the lands, Georg Fritz von Nell. Down to earth and immensely charming, he drives a chartered bus into town to the local hotels to pick up people who wish to enjoy a wine tasting — all for only 10 euros!
I was happy to be hosted to be able to experience it.
By the way, this is my 1,700th article! Thank you so much for being part of my journey around the world for the tastiest flavors.

Tamar started life as a professional violinist; she was the youngest girl to solo with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. After becoming a criminal defense attorney in Baltimore, she discovered a world beyond classical music and courthouses. Perhaps it was when she was on TV with celebs Bill Maher and Peter Frampton. Possibly, it was after she judged the Roadkill Cookoff or the International Water Tasting Festival. Tamar is a Kentucky Colonel and has managed several Southern rock and alt-country bands.Tamar has traveled around the world; let her help you guide you to the special places to go and the fabulous things to bring there and bring back home!
