The luxury of gold in skincare: Orogold 24K Vitamin C Mask

Gold: the ultimate indulgence for your skin

Go ahead: soothe your skin with precious metals

If you follow spa trends, you know that the most exclusive wellness and beauty destinations in the world have begun incorporating gold into their facials. For example, the Ritz-Carlton La Prairie spa in Manhattan uses gold in skin treatments. Why? Is this merely about flaunting one’s wealth? Actually, no. Gold has been foundto restore skin elasticity and freshness, as well as to enhance the body’s natural responses for healing. It’s also reputed to help with sun damage and aging. Colloidal gold is sometimes even used in injections to treat rheumatoid arthritis, which in itself is an inflammatory condition.

However, skin treatments in far-flung locales can cost hundreds of dollars for a single application. Now, you can treat yourself at home with Orogold 24K Vitamin C Mask! I was happy to be hosted to experience it.

The product is packaged in a gold-lettered box, like jewelry. It would make a fine gift for the holidays, to be sure: Gold has been a cherished holiday gift for millennia. The container at 110g is just a tad too voluminous for 3-1-1 carry-on bags, but is quite portable for other types of travel.

Each box comes with a certificate, noting that it contains beaten metal leaves with a thickness of 0.07 microns. The mask contains 24K gold from Italy.

So, how is it on the face? It’s a sheer, refreshing but gentle gel formulation. It feels and looks like aloe vera. Sometimes, Vitamin C products can sting or produce unwanted rosiness or rashes, but this mask does not. It also contains Vitamin E, Witch Hazel, citrus extract. You smooth it on and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Unlike a clay mask, it is not meant to dry during this time. Neither is it like some beeswax or oily masks. Probably all types of complexions could benefit from the mask, including those that have a slight sunburn.

It should also be noted that after you rinse your face, no gold flecks remain. So have no fear of an inelegant, glittery look!
