It’s been just over a year since Ikaros moved a block away in Greektown. They now have a lounge where you can order small plates, as well as a rotisserie spit where they cook whole lambs, offal, etc. It’s so popular, believe it or not, when I last went there the lamb offal was sold out by 6:30 pm!
I just called the restaurant and learned that over the hot summer and until the last week in September, the grill guys have been given a vacation. No rotisserie until the last weekend in September: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays. If you have a Groupon for Ikaros, something to keep in mind!
I must admit that I’m a little sad, in that I like to go to Ikaros to break the fast after Yom Kippur — ancient cultures and all. This year, Yom Kippur is early this year, so the break the fast will be mid-September.
My mom and dad knew how to say this in Greek restaurants: Δεν είμαι ελληνικά, είμαι Εβραίος.
