I knew I was in for something special when I told some Cleveland locals that I’d be having dinner at Pier W and they seemed to be in awe. So, I put on my best summer cocktail dress and got ready for a fantastic evening. The restaurant itself is on Lake Erie with a stunning view of downtown Cleveland. I lucked out with a table right by the window, too. Ambient modern music plays in the background.
Pier W’s interior decor is meant to resemble a luxury liner. It’s chic and dress is, well, dressy. Their cool bar changes color with light fixtures. They carry the finest liquors, such as Stoli Elit and Louis XIII de Remy Martin. The attention to detail at Pier W is right on point. Basil pesto and lavender-honey butters are brought out with hot Italian bread during the bread service.
Pier W orders its seafood from responsible sources and obtains the freshest food possible. The seafood tower, which makes a perfect light dinner for two during this hot summer weather, comes with a cucumber mignonette, cocktail sauce and Sriracha aioli. The shrimp on the tower are gigantic and tender, stunningly fresh. The tower also features both smoked mussels and steamed mussels. There’s a dish of crab salad that’s mild . . . I don’t think it was blue crab. The crab cake was flavored with scallion, which is different from the crab cakes you’ll get in Maryland. Other delicacies on the tower included lobster tail, which worked beautifully with the aioli and Fire River oysters from New Brunswick, Canada.
For dessert, I tried a few cheeses from their American artisan cheese selections. The cheddar was especially robust! The cheeses were served with pistachio toasts and homemade peach preserves.
