Baltimore, are you getting ready for the holidays? You’re probably planning out gift giving right now. Head to one of our upscale liquor stores in Baltimore or Baltimore County for something special: Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon. I’m glad I got to try it! You can compare my notes to Eagle Rare’s 10 Year expression (along with my own Basil Julep recipe) HERE.
Here are the official tasting notes:
Nose: Dark candied fruit, cigar boxes, cinnamon.
Palate: Delicate and dry. Hints of leather, vanilla and tobacco.
Finish: Lingering, with hint of toffee.
Here are some additional things I found about Eagle Rare 17 Year: it’s not one of those spicy bourbons. It’s moderately more intense than the 10 year. I tasted deliciously sweet, yeasty flavors, like a bourbon bread pudding. It’s very drinkable, smooth and warming. It doesn’t have a “snappiness” to it; rather, it’s quite mellow. It’s got a medium viscosity to it, with a bit of vanilla nose.
If you have a friend who likes to end the day with a glass of fine bourbon neat, Eagle Rare 17 Year would make a much appreciated gift this holiday season.
