Tapas isn’t a new restaurant idea in the US, but tapas done well always has an important place in a cultured city. The small plates famous in the Mediterranean — and especially Spain — are a great way to try new things, get a light bite pre-theater (like I did), or just have fun sharing with friends.
Cincinnati has an award-winning wine and tapas restaurant, Abigail Street. I was very glad to be hosted to experience it!
When having lots of little plates, it’s great to be able to pair a wine with each flavor . . . that is to say, by the glass. Abigail Street has several selections and also, a new concept:
“Incredible producers from Oregon, California, Washington and Abroad are creating & blending barrels of unique wines exclusively for Abigail Street. It’s by far the greenest way to enjoy wine, they eliminate bottling, packaging & materials. No cored bottles, no waste. The end result is a higher quality product at a lower price. Wine this fresh can only come straight from the vineyard to your glass. At Abigail Street you can enjoy it by the glass, quartino or take a bottle home. We’ll even bottle it for you. (in a recycled bottle of course) At Abigail Street we are dedicated to changing the way you drink wine.”
As exotic as tapas can be, the restaurant is incorporating lots of local produce and artisan foods: local beets, house made ricotta, thyme scented local honey, etc. Presentation is simple yet enticing.
People of all ages and groups of all configurations fit Abigail Street. A casual atmosphere is the essence of the restaurant.
