Cincinnati, with its German heritage, has always been known for beer. In what was a forgotten brewery in a forgotten neighborhood – Over The Rhine’s Christian Morlein Brewery complex – a couple of young guys have revived craft brewing there, though the brand has been revived by others. Rhinegeist, whose name plays on the ghost aspect of it all, is in a massive 250,000 square foot building. I was happy to be hosted to experience it!
They brew West Coast style, dry, hoppy beers. The folks at Rhinegeist didn’t know how that would go over in the Midwest, but they’re extremely popular! IPA’s might shock the taste buds, but remember . . . they can be extremely food friendly.
With the warren of different rooms, the building has the potential to be used for all kinds of events and things . . . right now, live music in the main brewing section draws crowds.
Rhinegeist is located at 1910 Elm Street, Over the Rhine, Brewery District, Cincinnati, Ohio
(one block North of Findlay Market.)
