Fresh American cuisine: the restaurant at Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls [classic article]

If you’re looking to explore the other side of the old Baltimore & Ohio railroad connection, you should be exploring their cuisine! Why not eat in a log cabin that was around at the heyday of the Baltimore & Ohio? A good start to your journey would be to the Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls in the Hocking Hills area of Ohio. The restaurant and bar has been built of a combination of 1840’s cabins that were on site and others that were moved there. When you sit on a stool at the bar, the atmosphere is friendly and gets you into that pioneering spirit. I’m glad I had the chance to experience it!

Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls: the restaurant

Executive Chef Anthony is passionate about using garden grown and locally produced foodstuffs. Here, you can order herb salads picked feet away, Ohio ground coffee, local herbal teas, their own honey, OYO vodka cocktails and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream. The menu, including their beers, is seasonal.

The restaurant holds special wine tasting events, bringing in experts showing off hard-to-find boutique wines. There are also cooking classes, a Christmas cookie baking event and even their own cookbook, available in the gift shop. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with to-go bags available, but reservations are highly recommended at this intimate spot.

The recipes are comforting, yet innovative: the spanakopita was sweetened with currants and a tangy balsamic glaze. You’ll find fresh, clean flavors and simple presentation. It’s a relaxed, gourmet atmosphere. While the seasonal offerings are tightly edited, there’s something for everyone, ranging from imaginative vegetarian offerings to steaks. The restaurant is happy to accommodate dietary restrictions.
