Fresh fall beauty with Fragrance.com!

Fall is a time for new beginnings and “getting back into the game” — whether you are back in school, back from vacation, planning for holiday gatherings. This is a time when the weather’s cool enough so that your face isn’t melting. In fall, folks love long walks with the fall foliage, hiking and enjoying simple pleasures outside. I had never previously heard of the Jeanne Arthes – Paris fragrance line. Have you? In checking out perfumes, I fell down the rabbit hole into Fragrance.com’s collection of 69 of their scents! Many of them are what are referred to as “gourmand”: they have fruit and/or dessert notes. I think this is a good time of year for gourmand fragrances, because we’re attuned to Halloween candies, getting ready for cookie baking, special pumpkin spice coffees, etc.

“Tea Time A Paris” is a sub-line focusing on French cookie scents. They’re packaged in pretty and substantial ceramic bottles. I tried Macaron Amande — “Almond Macaron”. I experienced a sweet, marzipan scent blended with powdery, delicate floral notes. Very feminine and comforting. This is how they describe it: “This flavorful Eau de Parfum combines the deliciously sweet notes of a famous almond pastry with delicately fruity and floral notes of Plum, Helitrope and Orange Blossom. The final touch of vanilla milk leaves us melting with greedy pleasure.”

NYX is a cult-favorite makeup line that just happens to be very affordable. Their 3 Steps to Sculpt round palette comes in different shades, because what works as a contour powder, for example, for one person might be too red for another. I tried “Fair”, which includes a medium taupe matte contour powder, a shimmery light taupe powder and a matte pink-ivory powder. All you need are brushes. I suggest a few brushes to accomplish all of the purposes, such as a wedge-shaped contouring brush, a medium or small round blush brush and a fan-shaped brush for the pink-ivory powder. I love its subtle “lay-down”: it’s sheer enough to really look natural, even in bright sunlight.

Certainly in the early part of fall, it’s a challenge to find appropriate skincare: winds picking up evaporate moisture, but it’s still too balmy out to have oily or waxy creams. Philosophy Hope in a Jar hyaluronic glow moisturizer also has pineapple extract. Hyaluronic acid pulls water from the environment to hydrate skin. It has a comforting creme-gel consistency that’s not irritating or contributing to breakouts. If you apply it at night, you will have softer skin in the morning.

Dior Addict Lip Flow Reviving Lip Balm does serious lip repair while adding a touch of color. I tried 007 Raspberry, which adds that color to your lips that you get in a sauna, after a bath or a really good nap: healthy and young! It adds a glow, not a goopy shine.

Here’s a great idea for when to use a color that’s you, but at your best. Do you have family who insists on taking your photo bright and early on holiday mornings? I mean, after you’ve stayed up most of the night cooking, cleaning, decorating, wrapping presents? When you haven’t showered, brushed your hair or “put on your face”? Yes, it should be against the law! But this raspberry glow gives you that fresh baby look. I noticed a faint vanilla-mint scent. Maybe add a cute bathrobe.
