Directly behind this sign are the “Gentlemen’s Springs” at Berkeley Springs, WV. This is where the two free town pumps are, for a DIY experience. Sometimes — even in harsh winter — there are lines, but they go fast. I suspect I saw a restaurant owner filling up jugs one time.

If there’s a draught, the town imposes a limit on how much water you can take.
