Canada’s smallest province has seafood with the biggest flavor: Prince Edward Island. With all of the fresh bounty, they eat seafood like crabs, mussels, oysters and fish all the time! Unlike that show Dual Survivor, where they roast land crabs plain on a stick, people want to season their seafood. Fortunately, there’s Prince Edward Island Seafood Seasonings to the rescue. I was happy to be hosted to experience it!
I have been to gorgeous PEI, which is where you will have to buy the seasonings for the time being, regulations and all that.
I tried the Salmon Blend and Crab Blend. They are much different from the US seafood seasonings on the market, the typical Deep South seafood boils or Maryland’s Old Bay. They don’t have heat! My Midwestern sensibilities say that there are a lot of people out there who will appreciate that.
I would describe both as cooking seasonings, rather than finishing (at the table) seasonings. They have a coarser cut/grind. The Salmon Blend has a slight sweetness, enhanced by sweet onion. I liked it on some wild salmon I had! The Crab Blend has salt/black pepper/garlic notes: different, but tasty.
