A family feast with Duck Commander’s — of Duck Dynasty fame — wines [classic article]

The Robertson Family of Duck Dynasty fame are quickly becoming one of the most successful personal brands ever. With a hit tv show, 3 New York Times bestsellers, a hit holiday record, popular clothing lines and the merch that started it all — duck calls — what else could there be for them to conquer? Wine!

The Louisiana family’s company itself is called Duck Commander; they’ve teamed up with Trinchero Family Estates to create Duck Commander – Robertson Family Wines. The family has said publicly — when asked whether their religious beliefs would prohibit them from selling wines — that family is very important to them and they know that many families like to get together for meals and drink wine. My husband and our family sure did for Thanksgiving . . . we were very happy to be hosted to experience Duck Commander – Robertson Family Wines. We drank ours on the water, in what we like to call in Maryland (it’s a Maryland drinking thing), “The Land of Pleasant Living”.

Whether you’re serving turkey — or in some cases, probably theirs — duck, go along with the Red Blend. This is how they describe it: “This Red Blend exposes the fresh, ripe, jam like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. This medium bodied wine is fruit forward, silky and soft with smooth tannins.” It’s very drinkable . . . even those who normally eschew red wine will probably like it, appreciating the nuances that make it go with darker poultry, pork . . . I’d even recommend it for sweet-spicy beef dishes like tomato-based BBQ, chili, spicy ethnic dishes that might very well be part of your family’s traditions. Also, don’t forget the side dishes when pairing: this wine goes with stuffing that has fruits in it, sweet potatoes, heartier sides with garlic, etc.

This is how they describe their other wines:

Our Chardonnay offers rich tropical fruit aromas with hints of lemon and crisp apple laced around the complex nose. The palate is vibrant and full of pear, melon and apple pie with a silky, creamy finish.

Our Pink Moscato has luxurious aromas of white peaches, honeysuckle and caramel. Luscious passion fruit and honeydew melon flavors with hints of sweet vanilla are perfectly balanced by refreshing acidity.

These are fun, conversation-starting gifts to bring when you’re visiting your family and friends this holiday season.
