BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md, July 15, 2011 – Sometimes, especially on a Sunday, it seems like the time to simplify things. Sundays are about family, community, and getting back to what’s important.
On Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm, Penwood Christian Church in Edgemere puts on a free Southern Gospel concert in conjunction with Sunday Evening Fellowship. The musicians are quite skilled and amplified, for that modern Southern Gospel sound. Many familiar country classics are derived from the Southern Gospel musical genre tradition.
This little church in the wildwood, as the song goes, has a long history with residents in the Sparrows Point/ Bethlehem Steel area. Some old-timers even remember when the church was rebuilt after a fire in 1943. It’s non-denominational.
Penwood Christian Church has a building next door where they have seasonal thrift sales, but their pantry is available to the needy 7 days a week by calling 410-477-0363.
During this season of late sunsets, after church, you’re a 2 minute walk from North Point State Park, open until sunset.
They have several gazebos, fishing, trails, and picnicking. North Point State Park is located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and is surrounded by beautiful and fascinating natural and historical resources. It consists of 1,310 acres off Old North Point Road in Edgemere.
