Not a booze bar, but a fun honey bar: Rhinebeck, NY’s Bumble & Hive

In the heart of country-chic Rhinebeck, NY — Chelsea Clinton was married here — is the most family-friendly bar one could possibly conceive: a honey bar! Inside Bumble & Hive, customers can sidle up to a bar to sample rare and artisan honeys, many from the surrounding area. Flavored, infused, creamed and raw varieties are all on hand. It’s a smart idea to offer the sampling; some of the items are pricey, but sampling gives you the confidence of indulging in the splurge. If you’re lucky, you might even get some serving suggestions to go along with your selection.

The exposed brick, natural, lower lighting and layout of the store elevates honey to a hipster condiment: you half-way expect small plates and “interesting wines” to be served. The business is about a year and half old — but in a vintage building — and extremely popular!

As well as honey, the store sells honey-based items such as indie cult-label perfumes, lip balms, lotions and soaps. The place smells divine! Fittingly, Bumble & Hive call itself “An Emporium for the Soul”.

There’s more to Bumble & Hive than just the sweet stuff. They also have a nice collection of local art, jewelry, antiques, baby clothes and all kinds of unique items.
