Chic dining in a bathrobe at Iceland’s luxe Blue Lagoon!

The Blue Lagoon is considered one of the most luxurious spas in the world. Located on a silicone rich lava field/geothermic hot spring about 8 miles from Iceland‘s Keflavik Airport, the water stays very warm in all weather and the floor of the field is covered in creamy, Tiffany blue mud. It’s very good for your skin and well being! I was very happy to be hosted to experience it.

On our own dime, we did drinks and lunch. There’s both an indoor and in-the-pool bar, serving both adult and health drinks. I tried a green smoothie in the pool, because it’s like the drinks I make at home when not galavanting to restaurants. A trick of the trade! It’s important to get the kind of greens and vitamins not necessarily on a gourmet menu. Their smoothie was a little more audience friendly — read: sweeter — than what I do at home, but it felt good to drink it.

For lunch time, there were a few choices at the spa, including Lava, their upscale dining spot. You can wear your swimsuit and bathrobe there! The way to go is the lunch buffet! At roughly $38 US, it’s not cheap, but there’s a lot of value to it. They have phenomenally fresh dill gravlax and smoked salmon — each with their own tiger and mustard sauces — sushi rolls and even minke whale tataki! Having previously had some tough experiences with whale, I hesitatingly took a teeny piece from the buffet . . . it was tasty! If you didn’t know any better, you’d think it was the reddest tuna you ever had.

For those hankering for cooked food, there was carved turkey, marinated lamb, various prepared veggie salads and mini dessert shots.

Iceland has some of the best tasting water in the world, so that’s what I drank with lunch!
